The "She Shed" Movement

The "She Shed" Movement

From a creepy old structure only used to store things, to a backyard haven, the shed has come a long way.

I remember growing up, we tried to use the shed that came with our house as a makeshift play apartment, but it just never felt right. It was always dirty, dusty and cold. Partially because it was owned by a single woman raising two girls, but also because it was only meant to keep things from getting wet.

These days, I’ve seen sheds become home offices, garden cottages and even libraries! Should we all jump on the bandwagon? Absolutely. Somewhere along the way, people have learned to maximize their spaces inside and out. Considering a shed is a small structure on the property you already own, why not?! He's got the man cave, you've a she shed. It has become one of the most popular ways to create a serene space at home and create ultimate home relaxation.

A shed can be the ultimate self-care for mothers and be our own little home a few steps away from our real home. We can accomplish this in several different ways. For one, we can decide its purpose. Would it be used to read, write or work in peace? If not, it could also serve as just a good place to get away from it all. A place where you are simply meant to do nothing at all.

The energy in our dwelling must also match the purpose. If your shed is meant to be an additional place to work, it may be useful to have a good Wifi signal, speakers for music you can work to (if you are like me), and a good place to sit a desk and chair. Not to mention productive supplies and decor such as dry erase/cork boards and drawers.

For others, a shed should be the total opposite of being active. It would be a place to unwind and get away from the common areas shared with the rest of the family. This would be a place that brings at home serenity, peace, tranquility and zen just by simply stepping over the threshold. This may include plants, comfy areas to relax and meditate as well as flameless candles to eliminate any risks.

Having a shed tailored to your needs could be a true benefit to not only your mental health, but your peace of mind. There are several ideas that can be found on the internet, but it would take some internal searching to decide what purpose a shed would serve for your soul and how it can bring you inner peace.
